Way to go Liz! Looks like you are doing some good work with the flat panels. In addition to the class coming up in Corning, Percy and I have one in development for Pilchuck next summer. Some updates: I've developed an electrode holder so you can avoid "gloving in" to the hot kiln. I hope the method will accelerate our Corning class. Also, Wayne gave a class in June that focused on "getters" and ways to purify fills. Since the bake-out with fused glass is difficult, I hope to apply his techniques, especially for getting super-red neon fills. Regards, Mark Ditzler

Hi Mark! The electrode holder sounds like a huge development for the process and should help students make panels more easily. I'd be curious to hear how the electrode holder and new fill method goes during the upcoming workshop.

Hi Liz, Good to hear from you! I just shipped a box to Corning with class supplies including the electrode holders. It will be a good test to see how consistently they work, but I've done several firings using them and so far so good. We won't be able to use the new getters there yet. There's still much testing to do to figure out how to adapt Bullseye to that process. Your recent comments about the difficulty of bakeouts using Bullseye are right on, and activating (red hot) the electrodes is a bit scary. Not at all like using borosilicate glass!
